In Yoga philosophy, the virtue of generosity as a yogic responsibility is referred to in the Mahanarayana Upanishad, reminding us that all beings live from the donations of others, as the world family (vasudeva kutumbakam in Sanskrit). Also, the action of giving back (dana in Sanskrit), is described in detail as a sincere sharing of wealth (money, talents, service) acquired by right means - and it is counted among the ten niyamas (the code of conduct) on the Yoga path.
At Seva Yoga, each teacher has a chosen charity listed on their page. Each student's studio donation for attending a class will have a portion of that going directly to the teacher's charity. Every class is connected to charity.
Related to this is another essential in Yoga philosophy: service (seva in Sanskrit), something necessary for continued development on the Yoga path. At our studio, teachers share a commitment to economically-accessible Yoga for all. In addition, teacher community is nurtured through voluntary gatherings for service together where teachers can connect with each other and the studio news while at the same time doing something that makes the world a better place.
